What an Incredible and unforgettable night on Saturday, July 29 in Santa Clara.
Over 58,000 fans were at Levi Stadium and everyone dressed up as if they were going to a Gala event. There were long lines of people buying “The Eras Tour” merchandise as well as getting food and drinks for a good time. From dresses to cowboy hats, the fashion was spot on and matched the vibe of Taylor Swift’s music. As we approached 8:00pm, the massive video screen came on with a large clock and 2-minute, 15-second countdown. Fans were going nuts as they knew Tay Tay was coming.
The time ran out and the video turned off. Dancers appeared on the colossal stage carrying giant art-deco-stylized fans. Swift came out on stage and started the night with “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince,” followed by “Cruel Summer” and the fans went crazy. She embraced the moment, inviting the attendees to join in singing the chorus, which resulted in an even louder and passionate response. Standing on stage, she took it all in, her eyes darting around in awe.
Next, she sang "The Man," and a multi-tiered platform emerged, providing a dynamic backdrop for Taylor's performance. Donning a bedazzled black coat, she enacted a compelling scene, eventually ascending to the top and reclining on an office desk. The song then flowed seamlessly into a slightly condensed medley of "You Need to Calm Down" and "Lover," during which she wielded a pink acoustic guitar. As she approached the song "Lover," Taylor Swift set the stage for an enchanting journey through 17 years of her life. Delighted by the prospect of exploring each era one by one, she excitedly shared this with the audience.
The captivating performance of "The Archer" reached its culmination with a shower of sparks cascading down from above, seemingly igniting a house depicted on the video screen. The visual spectacle added a touch of mystique and drama to the song, leaving the audience in awe of Taylor Swift's artistry and ability to craft an immersive experience that transcends the boundaries of the stage.
Following the thrilling "Lover" era, the “Fearless” era took the stage by storm. The undeniable highlights of this segment were the powerhouse combination of "You Belong With Me" and "Love Story," which ignited massive singalongs. The crowd enthusiastically belted out every word, making the atmosphere electric with shared emotions and nostalgia.
Transitioning to the “evermore” era, the talented band HAIM returned, adorned in pastel prom-like dresses, to join Taylor Swift for a captivating performance of "no body, no crime." While the recorded version of the song exudes sleekness, this live rendition transformed into a cool alt-country rocker. Danielle Haim's soulful solo along with Swift and her sisters' harmonious vocals elevated the performance to something truly special. The appearance of the Haim sisters added an extra layer of excitement and camaraderie to the moment.
As the evermore segment progressed, "Willow" took center stage, creating a poignant atmosphere. Taylor had already enchanted the audience by gracefully switching outfits multiple times, and now she donned a green cloak, dancing dramatically to accentuate the enchanting melody. The dancers encircled her, holding glowing orange orbs, creating a mesmerizing scene. The forested backdrop further enhanced the dreamlike ambiance, casting a spell on the audience.
During "marjorie," Taylor allowed the crowd to take the lead, letting them sing the intro while the stadium shimmered with thousands of white lights from the wristbands distributed earlier. The collective glow of the audience illuminated the night, symbolizing the shared connection and harmony between Taylor and her devoted fans. During the performance of "Tolerate It," Taylor Swift presented an artistic interpretation that left a powerful impact. One of the dancers took on the role of a man seated at a dinner table, subjected to the emotional abuse hurled at him by Swift. This powerful visual portrayal added depth and emotion to the song, leaving the audience captivated by the raw vulnerability and artistry on display.
The next era was “Reputation,” which had one of the coolest set pieces of the night, inadvertently tying in with a "Barbie" theme. For "Look What You Made Me Do," Taylor Swift performed amidst dancers dressed as life-sized dolls displayed in plastic cases. The scene exuded an edgy yet mesmerizing vibe, perfectly complementing the rebellious tone of the song. The segment also included a vibrant rendition of "...Ready for It?," with Swift donning her famous one-legged snake suit, and a captivating performance of "Don't Blame Me," during which beams of light soared into the sky, coinciding with the flight path of airplanes passing directly overhead every five minutes.
The combination of innovative visuals, dynamic performances, and Taylor Swift's signature flair made this segment a standout moment, showcasing her ability to create a visually stunning and musically immersive experience for her devoted fans. During the enchanting two-song “Speak Now” era segment, thousands of voices sang in unison, passionately joining Taylor Swift in the lyrics, "Please don't be in love with someone else" on "Enchanted." Swift appeared on stage in a mesmerizing Cinderella-like ballgown, surrounded by dancers gracefully twirling around her. The purple background definitely had a cinderella vibe.
The inclusion of songs from the following “Red” era segment and beyond was like a sweet dessert for the audience. The vibrant "22" featured an impromptu fireworks display that brought excitement to the night. With a Rockettes-style high-kick line, the atmosphere was exhilarating and full of fun. During "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," a lively dance routine delighted the crowd, and the shortened version of "I Knew You Were Trouble" featured around 20 smoke cannons shooting blasts upward on the chorus, creating a thrilling visual spectacle. The segment reached its peak with the complete, 10-minute rendition of "All Too Well." As the stadium was sprinkled with confetti resembling falling snow, the magical moment captured the hearts of all in attendance.
At this point, we are 24 songs in the show and Taylor Swift's ability to weave captivating performances, dance routines, and mesmerizing visuals into her setlist created an unforgettable experience for her fans. However, there were a few more surprises with the remaining 21 songs.
The “folklore” era segment, while undeniably beautiful and captivating, inadvertently slowed the pace of the show. However, it provided a unique and mesmerizing experience for the audience as Taylor Swift sang while lying atop a moss-covered house roof with a smoking chimney. The production quality was top-notch, reminiscent of Broadway blockbusters, a testament to the level of expertise behind The Eras tour. During the performance of "the 1," a woodsy tune with organic clicks and clacks, the audience was immersed in the enchanting atmosphere that characterized the “folklore” era.
Throughout the 45-song set, Taylor Swift engaged in meaningful conversations with the crowd. She shared numerous stories, such as before "Betty," where she opened up about her headspace and approach to songwriting. For “folklore,” she adopted a character-driven narrative that artfully blended her emotions into the mix, making it distinct from her usual confessional and personal songwriting style. This added depth and richness to the performance, giving fans a glimpse into the artistic process and the stories behind the music.
Continuing with the “folklore” era, Swift had one of the most impressive performances during "the last great american dynasty.” She wore a breathtaking wardrobe and added choreography that nearly stole the attention from Taylor Swift herself. In "august," Swift pranced gracefully through a Van-Gough-like painting of swirling warm colors, adding a mesmerizing visual element to the song. "Cardigan" was sweet and touching, but some attendees were ready for more upbeat tunes at this point.
Their wishes were granted during the “1989” era segment, which became the energetic peak of the show. The combination of songs like "Style," "Blank Space," "Shake It Off," "Wildest Dreams," and "Bad Blood" felt like a seamless medley, flowing effortlessly into one another. "Blank Space" featured the dancers riding around on day-glow bicycles, while Taylor herself swung a matching golf club, adding a playful and vibrant touch to the performance. For "Bad Blood," a new and shortened arrangement further enhanced the dynamic energy of the segment.
The perfect blend of captivating choreography, engaging visuals, and Taylor Swift's undeniable charisma made the “1989” era segment a show-stopping highlight. The crowd was swept away by the infectious energy, leaving them dancing and singing along to the infectious beats. The Eras tour truly showcased Taylor Swift's ability to deliver an unforgettable and multi-dimensional experience for her fans, leaving everyone in awe of her immense talent and artistic prowess.
For many devoted Swifties who have attended multiple shows on The Eras tour, the surprise song segment, performed acoustically at the very end of the stage, is an exhilarating highlight. These surprise songs are rarely repeated and vary from show to show.
On this particular night, Taylor Swift thrilled the audience with the debut performances of "Stay Stay Stay,” and “All of the Girls You Loved Before".”
After finishing the two surprise songs, she disappeared for a few seconds only to reappear a few seconds later on the main stage for the grand conclusion of the concert, the “Midnights” era segment. This seamless transition marked the end of an enchanting and unforgettable night, leaving the audience in awe of Taylor Swift's talent and showmanship.
As the clock struck past 11:00pm, some fans began to trickle away, perhaps concerned about their transportation. However, those who chose to stay were treated to one of the show's most powerful and unforgettable segments. Taylor Swift handpicked the finest seven songs from her latest album, delivering an electrifying performance of new fan favorites. The momentum kicked off with the captivating "Lavender Haze," and Taylor's penultimate outfit of the night, a puffy lavender coat over a sparkly lavender shirt, complemented the majority of the fans in the building, creating a cohesive and enchanting atmosphere.
Next came "Anti-Hero," which exceeded expectations in the live setting, proving to be even more enthralling than its album version. The audience was then treated to the sensual and alluring "Midnight Rain" and the dark and mysterious "Vigilante Shit," featuring some sexy chair choreography that added a touch of intrigue and excitement to the performance. The dazzling "Bejeweled," "Mastermind," and "Karma" followed suit, each song shining brilliantly in its own right. The segment culminated in the explosive finale of "Karma," accompanied by a stunning fireworks display that blossomed like a visual symphony, leaving the audience in awe of the spectacle.
