Oakland A’s Call Up Their Top 2 Prospects

Tyler Soderstrom and Zack Gelof have consistently been regarded as future pillars of the Oakland A's franchise. The moment has finally arrived for both players to showcase their talent.

Soderstrom, recognized as the A's top prospect and ranked 34th overall by MLB Pipeline, alongside Gelof, the team's third-ranked prospect, received the call-up to the Major Leagues before the series opener against the Twins at the Coliseum on Friday.

At the age of 21, Soderstrom has displayed his impressive power at Triple-A Las Vegas throughout the season. As a standout player for the Aviators, he leads the team with 20 home runs, accompanied by 59 RBIs and an outstanding .839 OPS in 69 games. Recently, he also had the opportunity to showcase his skills at the All-Star Futures Game held at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. Notably, Soderstrom excelled in both the catcher and first baseman positions.

Gelof, currently 23 years old, has been performing remarkably at Las Vegas, boasting an impressive batting average of .304 and leading the team with a .930 OPS. His contributions include 12 home runs, 21 doubles, 44 RBIs, and an impressive 20 stolen bases. Remarkably, Gelof's rapid progression to the major leagues aligns closely with the two-year anniversary of being drafted by the Oakland A's in the second round of the 2021 MLB Draft.

Soderstrom and Gelof stand out among a group of promising prospects expected to shape the future success of the franchise. As the A's embark on a rebuilding phase, their arrival signifies a source of excitement and newfound hope for the second half of the season. Their presence symbolizes the beginning of a new chapter, fostering optimism for the team's future endeavors.

The A’s start their second half of the season at home against the Minnesota Twins.
