Domantas Sabonis reaches an agreement to stay with the Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings have successfully secured the final piece of their core that led them to a remarkable third-place finish in the Western Conference, putting an end to their NBA-record 16-season playoff drought.

According to multiple reports, Domantas Sabonis, the All-Star forward, has reached an agreement to restructure and extend his current contract with the Kings. The lucrative deal amounts to $217 million for the next five seasons and notably lacks any player or team options, as reported by The Sacramento Bee. The official announcement of the agreement was made on July 6.

As revealed by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Sabonis will see a substantial salary increase of $8.6 million, with his earnings rising to $30.6 million for the upcoming season. Moreover, the contract includes a four-year extension, which will add nearly $200 million to Sabonis's total earnings throughout the duration of the deal. Impressively, Sabonis opted not to take the full amount available to him, expressing his desire for the Kings to have the financial flexibility to build a strong roster rather than maximizing his own earnings.
