Fall Out Boy covers Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” with lyrics covering the past 30 years

Fall Out Boy has unveiled a modernized rendition of Billy Joel's 1989 chart-topper, "We Didn't Start the Fire." In this updated version, the band endeavors to continue Joel's narrative, referencing events spanning from 1989 to 2023. The juxtaposed couplets feature a range of topics, including Rodney King and deep fakes, Twilight and "Michael Jackson dies," Kim Jong-un and Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, as well as Meghan Markle and George Floyd.

Noteworthy moments like the Fyre Festival, the assassination of Shinzo Abe, Brexit, and the balloon boy are also incorporated, creating a comprehensive reflection of historical and pop culture milestones. The lyric video for this contemporary interpretation provides a visual accompaniment to the band's lyrical journey through the past three decades.

It is an interesting cover and you can listen here.
