Post Malone’s “Chemical” is an experience
Post Malone's newest single, "Chemical Music Video," emerges as his first release of the year, following a nearly year-long break since his fourth studio album, Twelve Carat Tooth. The album boasted chart-topping tracks such as "Cooped Up" featuring Roddy Ricch and "Wrapped Around Your Finger," among others.
In perfect synchrony with the vibrant summer atmosphere, this latest single exudes soothing vibes. Contrasting with his previous musical style, the song leans slightly more towards pop while incorporating subtle indie influences. This strategic move of unveiling an easily accessible track as the year's debut seems to foreshadow the forthcoming release of more introspective and melancholic tunes, aligning with the artist's established body of work.
The music video commences with Malone seated in his car, the resonating strums of guitar and beats of drums setting the tone. As he ignites his cigarette, the lyrics imply that he sings about his addiction to "chemicals" that temporarily grant him solace. However, once the effects begin to fade, the euphoria he initially anticipated dissipates, leaving behind a sense of disillusionment.
The music video unfolds initially with a glimpse of the world outside through the car window, but soon the camera pans to the right, following the singer as he walks onto the set. Against a backdrop of serene blue skies, he embarks on a dance routine. As the stage is meticulously set, the camera transitions to a central position, capturing the singer in a tight frame, emphasizing his presence.
This visual storytelling could potentially symbolize how, while under the influence of the chemicals, he manages to navigate his daily life, fulfilling obligations like shooting a music video. However, the lyrics convey a contrasting narrative, revealing the detrimental impact of his dependency on these substances on his personal relationships. Despite this realization, he finds himself unable to break free from their hold.
This was another hit and we are giving it 3 out of 4 stars.
