The Pentatonix concert at the Venue at Thunder Valley on November 16 was an unforgettable experience, especially given that it was my first time at this venue. Thunder Valley was packed to capacity for the sold-out show. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as fans eagerly awaited the performance of the a cappella sensation in their seats.
From the moment Pentatonix took the stage as part of "The Most Wonderful Tour of the Year," it was evident that the group's reputation for vocal harmony and precision was well-deserved. All five singers appeared on a small stage close together and exhibited incredible chemistry, performing in perfect sync throughout the entire show. Their voices blended seamlessly, creating a mesmerizing auditory tapestry that captivated the audience from start to finish.
The setlist featured a delightful array of Christmas classics, adding a Winter festive touch to the evening. Hits like "The 12 Days of Christmas," "Mary, Did you Know?" and "O Holy Night" resonated throughout the venue, each note delivered with precision and emotion. Pentatonix's unique ability to reimagine familiar songs with their signature style brought a fresh and exhilarating energy to these holiday favorites.
Beyond the exceptional vocal performances, the production of the show was a visual spectacle. The lighting, stage design, and overall presentation enhanced the Christmas festive atmosphere, complementing Pentatonix's musical prowess. The concert was a seamless blend of auditory and visual elements, creating a multi-sensory experience that left a lasting impression. Every few songs, the stage and background changed but would still keep the Christmas theme. Sometimes the background would be a gold, purple, and pink snowflake or a snow globe with large trees and snow pouring down. There were also a Santa Claus and Snowman background.
Speaking of favorites, the best moment of the show has to be when Kevin Olusola had the stage to himself. He explained to the audience how he could beat box as a little kid and learn how to improve as he got older. Then he played the Harry Potter theme on his cello. A few moments later, Matt Sallee performed on the drums and the two of them jammed out for a few minutes. After they finished, there was a large standing ovation.
The connection between Pentatonix and the audience was palpable, with the group engaging fans in a way that felt personal and genuine. Scott Houong engaged with the audience and got the crowd involved with a Tik Tok video. He was able to control the venue and have the audience turn on the lights from their smartphones. The result of the Tik Tok video can be found here.
Towards the end of the night, Pentatonix wanted the audience to get up and dance, so we did just that. The members walked around the venue as the sang a cover of the classic Hank Williams song “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”People were high fives to the singers as they walked by, others were dancing and singing along. Pentatonix came back for their encore and finished the night with their biggest cover song up to date, “Hallelujah.”
In conclusion, Pentatonix's performance at the Venue at Thunder Valley was nothing short of magical. The flawless vocal harmonies, festive setlist, and captivating stage presence combined to deliver a concert that will be cherished as a memorable highlight of the holiday season. If this show is indicative of the rest of their tour, "The Most Wonderful Tour of the Year" is truly living up to its name.
