Sacramento planning to build new stadium
Sacramento continues its plans to build a new stadium, but is not looking to expand Major League Soccer. California City's Sacramento Republic FC recently became a strong contender to become the league's 30th franchise. But MLS officials eventually settled in San Diego after Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Mansour agreed to a $500 million expansion fee.
From the Sacramento Bee, the mayor of Sacramento Darrell Steinberg stated, “We are moving forward with a first-class stadium in The Railyards. Hopefully, it will be in partnership with Major League Soccer but either way we are going to work in partnership with the Sac Republic team, the community, and the fan base to bring years of great soccer to Sacramento.”
The current Sacramento stadium is the smallest in MLS.
Sacramento Republic FC is currently playing its home game at USL Championship Hart Health Park. This stadium just opened for him in 2014 and has a capacity of just over 11,000 fans. The city's planned new stadium will provide space for up to 25,000 people for home games. However, organizers want to be flexible about arena capacity depending on which league they play in.
We will see what the future looks like in Sacramento.
