Kali Uchis teams up with El Alfa And JT From City Girls for “Muñekita”
Kali Uchis is embarking on a new chapter in Spanish-language music with her latest release, "Muñekita," featuring Dominican rapper El Alfa and JT from City Girls. The song is now available on Geffen, and you can view the official visualizer below.
Uchis shares her enthusiasm for bringing together unexpected artists, stating, "I love bringing artists together that you'd least expect." She acknowledges El Alfa's status as a Latino legend and JT's rising success as a solo artist this year. Both artists are renowned for their summer anthems and high-energy tracks, making her collaboration with them on this vibrant and sensual song all the more exciting.
The collaboration on "Muñekita" was born out of a mutual admiration that had been brewing for some time. Kali Uchis had engaged in numerous DM exchanges with both artists before JT visited her Los Angeles studio. Upon hearing the track, JT added her verse, and the collaboration expanded as El Alfa enthusiastically contributed to the project.
Kali Uchis' most recent album, "Red Moon In Venus," made quite a splash when it was released in March, garnering widespread critical acclaim and earning a spot on several "Best Of 2023 So Far" lists. In the UK, the praise was unanimous. Metro awarded the record a perfect 5-star review, describing it as "An exquisitely furnished boudoir of an album." The Guardian characterized it as "A lush, emotive confection of soft-focus R&B," and NME hailed Uchis as a "singular, spectacular artist."
This album marked a significant milestone for Uchis, becoming her first Top 10 charting album in the US, debuting at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. It includes the recently Gold-certified hit "Moonlight" and noteworthy collaborations with artists like Summer Walker, Don Toliver, and Omar Apollo. The album is available now under the Geffen Records label.
Uchis recently concluded the completely sold-out first leg of the "Red Moon In Venus" Tour, which featured standout performances at iconic venues like New York's Radio City Music Hall, Chicago's Aragon Ballroom, San Francisco's Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, and more.
In April, she took the mainstage at Coachella as one of the festival's top-billed performers, delivering a memorable set that included surprise appearances by Tyler, The Creator, Omar Apollo, and Don Toliver, making it one of the most celebrated performances of the weekend. Uchis also graced the stages of Lollapalooza in Chile, Argentina, and Brazil, as well as Estéreo Picnic in Colombia, solidifying her status as a global music sensation.
